I purchased this for my wife for Christmas. So far, we are both pleased with the Panasonic. We like the sound quality, and the ease of use. The remote control is an added bonus. The unit looks nice, and appears to be a “more expensive” model. The surround sound and deep bass options are nice added features. We did notice, however, that the latch holding the iPod door in place needs to be checked to make sure it is closed prior to opening the CD side; otherwise the door will start to slide, but will catch on the iPod latch and will stop moving. With the help of a long thin knife the iPod latch can be closed and the door movement will work normally. I think this is user error on our part, but it is something to take note of.
Otherwise, we are very pleased with the unit.

I bought this product mostly because it has a radio function as well as the CD and iPod-playing capabilities. Really, it does everything music-wise that one could possibly want in a smaller product that’s designed to take up very little space. The remote’s great to have as well. I think there were some reviewers who have had problems with static upon iPod playback, but I’ve not experienced this. Overall, a great product that’s worth the money. Functions exactly as advertised.

UPDATE: I exchanged my unit for a new one and the faint squeaking noise has disappeared, so I would probably re-rate this product at about 4 stars. Again, the sound quality is just fine (not great), but combined with the features and design, I’m happy with the product.
Original review: I purchased the SC-HC3 from a local store because it seemed to fit the bill in terms of providing a CD player, iPod dock, and radio tuner in a relatively compact size with a nice design. While I like most things about the stereo, the CD player emits a very audible noise when spinning a CD with faint squeaks (sounds like the laser may be constantly moving/adjusting). It probably would not be noticeable with the volume cranked on high, but at a reasonable volume sitting about 10 feed away, I can clearly hear the CD spinning/squeak noise. While I have decent hearing, I don’t think I’m being oversensitive. Anyways, I plan on returning the unit and trying another one. Hopefully this one is just an isolated lemon, given the consistently high reviews from other users.
If the CD spinning noise goes away with the new unit, I’ll gladly increase my rating (probably to 4 stars). Aside from the CD spinning noise, I would say the sound quality is good (not great). Certainly good enough to serve my purposes.
