Have latest generation Nano and it would not charge while interfaced with my car stereo. I plugged unit in and charging problem was instantly solved.

So this made my Neo iOn aftermarket iPod adapter/connector charge my iPhone 3GS, the switch from 12V to 5V is complete. However, it does not get rid of the initial "This Accessory was Not Made to work with iPhone. Would you like to turn on Airplane Mode to eliminate any interference?" screen when I plug it in. Charges, yes; aesthetically pleasing, not really; under $20, from another retailer (see Used & New prices).

Something that irked me was the lack of quick release clips, the ones that any other iPod connector has. The adapter inserts snugly into my iPhone for now, but I'm afraid it won't for long. Maybe when the time comes I'll be able to update to a new connector cable, it'll have clips and no bulky extension.

Worked great with 2nd generation iPod touch when I connected it to my charger in my car. Plugged it in, and it charged the battery as advertised.

Like many people who've had Ipods dating back to the days when only firewire syncing was available, I've invested a good amount of cash on products I like.

With the last generation of Ipod, the ability to use firewire or USB has been dropped in favor of USB only devices.

I'm able to use this adapter with my Ipod with certain legacy products, including the one I use most, my Belkin auto charger with built in amp and line out to my cassette player. FM transmitters do not work in my mountainous region.

When I hook up the Iphone 3gs without the adapter, I get a message that the device is not compatible or Device can not charge or something similar.

I don't beleive this is fully compatible with the Iphone, at least the 3GS. When I plug it into auto charge, I can charge, and it will play through the Belikin via the bottom plug, but I get a message not all features are available, would you like to turn on Airplane mode.

In essence, the Iphone becomes a Ipod touch, with no phone capabilities, which defeats one of the major reasons I purchased the Iphone, which is I'd only have to carry one device.

One other draw back, on some devices, it can be hard to make the connection easily, and can make the connection awkward.

For the majority of legacy items it's worth the price, but my advice is only purchase one, try it with the different devices you want to use. If it works well, pick up a few more, leave it with the device you'll be using.
