The install on what’s shipping is fine, but a little buggy. There’s no reason to wait for them to re-publish. It might take months for that. What you should do is wait for 10.5.1 to resolve most of the bugs. At that time, buy Leopard and run the system updates immediately after the install (it searches for updates and patches before the initial reboot anyway).
